"This life we chose is a tough one. Saying goodbye to children over and over that you have loved with all your heart takes a toll. We are preparing to do this again. Our littlest is going to be leaving soon. It’s an amazing thing. I am so happy for this bio mom. She’s a rock star and we have held hands through this journey. Co-parenting at its very best–but on the flip side of it, we are going to say goodbye to a little baby that came into our lives when he was just 8 days old. We got his first smile, his first laugh, first time rolling by over, first time holding his own bottle. We stepped in and we are his family because he needed us. The need is almost over. My heart breaks because we will be saying goodbye. I will ache to hold him in my arms for months after he goes. I will think about him day after day wondering if he is ok, if he wonders where I am and will he think I’ve abandoned him. Then one day he won’t remember me but his body will. His core was built in this house, with this family, we taught him love and attachment that he will use far into his future. Our family is a core block in this child’s foundation even though he will never remember us. So hard to grieve someone who is still alive and so exhausting to be happy and sad about the same exact thing. I wouldn’t change this, I want him to go home to his momma but saying goodbye to being his momma will break off a piece of my heart that will travel with him wherever he goes." Amanda B.
